Bought in 2007 as a classic Kenilworth Cape Cod on a high, dry lot, the home was taken down to its framing and rebuilt between 2016 and 2017 — what began as a roof repair became a ground-up reimagining.
In 2016, a roofing problem set everything in motion. The house already carried two layers of shingles, so a third wasn't allowed — and once the borough required new plywood, inspection revealed the original 2x6 roof trusses fell short of the 2x12 that current code demanded. A full new roof and attic structure became unavoidable.
With the attic already coming off, the contractor pointed out it made sense to add a full second floor. Within two weeks an architect had drawn one up. Then, with the attic stripped, inspectors found the first-floor exterior walls had no plywood or insulation — and the project became a decision: rebuild the whole thing, properly.
So we did. The first floor was stripped to the framing and rebuilt from there, and the home was wired as a custom smart home from the first floor to the attic. Completed in 2017, 629 Washington Ave is effectively a modern, energy-efficient, custom-built single-family home.

St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church and its Pre-K–8 Catholic school sit right on Washington Avenue — the same street as the home — part of a parish that has served Kenilworth families for generations.

What you don't see on a walkthrough — the structure, mechanicals, and wiring that came out of the 2016–2017 rebuild.
New roof and plywood with an attic rebuilt to current code (2x12 framing) in 2016–17. The walk-up attic adds code-required ventilation plus two thermostat-controlled fans to keep it cool in summer.
A 200-amp service with all-new wiring installed during the rebuild — ready for modern loads, EV-charging potential, and a fully wired smart home.
Two independent systems — main and lower level (replaced 2024) and the second floor (brand-new in 2026) — each on a Wi-Fi smart thermostat for room-right comfort and remote control.
3/4-inch drywall, new batt insulation plus an added foam layer, house wrap, and vinyl siding throughout — a tight, energy-efficient envelope from the studs out.
New windows and exterior doors throughout, including a double door off the great room — the main level alone is wrapped in seven windows and three doors.
Internet and cable wired throughout, a security system running from the first floor to the attic, and a surveillance system with local DVR and Wi-Fi access — no subscription required.

Three bedrooms, including a master suite with full bath, walk-in closet, and a 10-foot ceiling. A second large full bath with storage serves the other two bedrooms — one currently set up as a home gym — and the walk-up attic adds generous storage.

The home sits on a high, elevated lot — not in a flood zone, with no history of flooding through the current owner's time here since 2007.
Before the 2007 purchase, the property was checked for an underground oil tank — none was found.
Kept in immaculate, move-in condition, with HVAC professionally serviced by Mountainweather HVAC Corp and the home professionally cleaned by DMHouseCleaning.com.
Offered as a single-family home; the finished lower level and summer kitchen are flexible bonus space, not represented as a legal second unit — buyers verify any separate use with the Borough.
